Teachers use picture books to address standards in their curriculum: plot, setting, main idea, etc. But some students have bigger problems than mastering the TEKS. Books sometimes have the ability to speak to students in nonthreatening ways. Readers can connect with characters through common feelings, experiences, and struggles.
